Presentation of Letter of Credence to President of Palau

On April 28th 2009, in Melekeok, the Capital of the Republic of Palau, H.E. Mr. Vu Xuan Truong represented the Letter of Credence to H.E. Mr. Johnson Toribiong, President of Republic of Palau and officially became the first non-resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the Republic of Palau

Witnessing the representation were Palau’s Minister of State, Minister of Public Infrastructure, Industry and Commerce, Chiefs, representatives from Senate and House of Representative and other senior Government’s officials of Palau.

Just before the presentation ceremony, H.E. Mr. Vu Xuan Truong paid a courtesy call to President Johnson Toribiong, who congratulated H.E. Mr. Vu Xuan Truong on the new noble position. President Johnson Toribiong appreciated the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Palau, regarding it as a favorable condition for the promotion of the multi-sided cooperation between the two countries, especially in areas such as fishing industry, aquaculture, labor exchange, education and training…

During the time in Palau, H.E. Ambassador Vu Xuan Truong had working sessions with Palau’s agencies, including Ministry of State, Foreign Investment Board, Chamber of Commerce, Palau Fishing Association, Palau Dock Authority, Palau businessmen, Palau Community College and met with Vietnamese people residing in Palau.

The diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level between Vietnam and Palau was established on August 18th 2008. The Republic of Palau has the diplomatic relations with 45 countries and territories, including Vietnam. The Republic of Palau is an archipelago country, consisting of 340 islands and islets of 460 km2. Palau is combined of 16 states with the total population of 20.000 people, in addition, the foreign communities are up to 10.000 people, mainly Filipinos, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. The major sources of income of Palau are from tourism and foreign aids. Palau annually welcomes around 90.000 visitors. Palau’s GDP is over 150 million USD per year./.
