VIET NAM - PALAU DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS

According to the Joint Communiqué, the two countries has officially established the diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level since August 18th 2008. Vietnamese Ambassador to the Republic of the Philippines will be appointed as non-resident Ambassador to the Republic of Palau, and Palauan Ambassador to the Republic of the Philippines will be appointed as non-resident ambassador to the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam.
At the signing ceremony, the two ambassadors affirmed their belief that the newly established diplomatic relations would pay the way to increase multi-faceted cooperation between the two countries, especially in the economic areas, contributing to the consolidation of peace, stability and development in the region.
Palau consists of 340 islands of over 304 km2, with a population of 20,000, located between the Philippines and Papua New Guinea. The Republic of Palau was established on October 1st 1994. The major economic sectors of Palau include tourism, agriculture and fisheries. Last year, Palauan GDP reached US$162 million and 93,000 foreign tourists visited this country.
